Chiropractic Treatment for Arthritic Conditions

Is arthritis interfering with your life? Keeping you from doing the things you need to do, or the things you love? At Dr. Gary Martin Irvine Chiropractor, our chiropractic staff wants you to know that arthritis doesn’t have to dictate the way you live.

.

Exactly What Is Arthritis?

Arthritis means inflammation of the joints, and the term is used to cover several specific conditions. If you have it, you don’t need anyone to tell you how arthritis makes you feel you. It can mean you grimace every time you have to open a jar. Or reach for an object above your head. It can mean knee and ankle problems that make it painful to climb and descend stairs, to turn, even to walk. It can happen anywhere in the body you have a joint. In other words, just about anywhere at all.

What causes arthritis?

Arthritis can be the result of an injury or a disease. It might be the result of overuse or repetitive stress. It can get worse with aging, and as we get older we’re more susceptible, but it can strike folks of any age. Sometimes it develops without any obvious reason.

Diet, physical activity, and a generally healthy or unhealthy lifestyle are all factors that can contribute to arthritic symptoms. A factor that may be less obvious is spinal alignment. If there is subluxation, or misalignment, in the spinal column, the entire postural system can be thrown out of balance, putting unnatural pressure on the joints that are giving you trouble.

In other words, the best way to address your knee and ankle problems might not be to directly treat the knee or ankle but to treat the entire body instead. The best way to deal with the pain in your shoulder or wrist might be to improve the alignment of the spinal column to relieve the pressure on the shoulder or wrist.
